"I came to a realization that there is something that any one of us can do for all who have died. I came to see that any one of us, by himself, can care about them, all of them, and love them."--Boyd K. Packer

Born: 6 January 1724 in Woodbridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey

Jeremiah Salyer

Married: 18 August, 1757 in New York

Note: Kim Watt's Page says his inclusion in this family is based on the fact that there were three Salyers--Jeremiah, Samuel and Zachariah--living in northeastern North Carolina in the year 1754.

Zachariah Benjamin Salyer, Sr. (My direct ancestor)

Born: 24 January 1730 in Woodbridge, New Jersey

Died: 1789 in Piedmont, Chowan County, North Carolina Source: Marvin Spradlin's Climbin' the Family Tree

Spouse: Elizabeth Dunn

Married: About 1751

Note: According to Sherri Slayton, whose page has much more than names and dates, Zachariah may be the ancestor family legend says was killed when a panther dropped from a tree onto his back while he was riding through the forest. He was killed by the panther and the panther was killed by someone who was with Zachariah.

Contemplations: Joseph was born in New Jersey, but then Samuel is listed as born in North Carolina. I have no birth place for the third child, and the fourth was born in Woodbridge. However, both parents are said to have died in New Jersey. Hmmm.... Did they move from New Jersey for a time? Did they later return? The children seem largely to have stayed in North Carolina, but my ancestor, Zachariah, married a New Jersey woman. I wonder if our inability to find the parents is because, perhaps, they never really returned to New Jersey? Or is this information wrong? It's gathered from various internet sources and Family Search listings, so I don't know what the original sources were. I'm going to look into this more.

Why is there so little online about this group? There is a great deal about the Kentucky Salyers, a great deal about the FitzRandolphs...this little group in the middle appears to be neglected. Who are they?
