Winter Fun

Mandy, Karen, Timmy and Joseph are playing in the snow. During the day, math problems keep popping up all over the place. See if you can solve them!

1. The children are building snow men. They want to make a snow family. Mandy builds a mother and father. Karen builds a baby. Timmy builds two boys and Joseph builds two grandparents. How many snow people are in their snow family?

2. The children decide to ride their new sleds down the hill at the park. Karen doesn't have a sled, so the other children let her ride with them. She rides two times with Mandy. She rides three times with Timmy. She rides one time with Joseph. How many times did Karen sled down the hill?

3. The children decide to have a snowball fight. Mandy is the fastest snowball maker. She makes four snowballs. Joseph makes three snowballs. Karen makes three snowballs. Timmy only made two snowballs because he was chasing his dog part of the time. How many snowballs did they make all together?

4. When the children get back to Karen's house, they decide their snowmen look boring. They decide to add things to them to make them fancier. Karen finds four gloves they can wear. Timmy finds four seashells in his collection that he thinks will make fancy eyes or buttons. Joseph finds three carrots for noses. Mandy finds one hat for the grandmother snowperson. How many things did the children find?

5. They go to Joseph's house and decide it needs to be decorated too. They make snow angels. Karen loves to make snow angels, and she makes seven of them. Timmy gets cold and wet, so he only makes two. Joseph makes three, but says his are really eagles. Mandy didn't make any because she was playing with Joseph's dog. How many snow angels and eagles did they make?

6. The children are cold, so they go into the house and have hot chocolate and warm cookies. Joseph puts nine marshmallows in his hot chocolate. Mandy puts five in her drink. Karen puts four in her hot chocolate. Timmy puts whip cream in his hot chocolate. How many marshmallows did the children use?

7. Joseph was very hungry and ate five cookies. Timmy ate two cookies. Karen ate two cookies. Mandy ate three cookies. How many cookies did the children eat?

8. When the children went to the playroom to rest, they forgot to put away some of their things. Mandy left her coat on the chair. Timmy left two boots by the door. Karen left her hat on the table. Joseph left his two gloves on top of the sleeping dog. How many things did the children forget to put away?
