Addition Worksheet For Independence Day
This worksheet contains ten story problems using addition problems. They are somewhat challenging, but children are guided in how to do the three number addition by adding only two numbers, then adding a third to the first sum. This allows it to be done by younger children.
Copy and paste the worksheet questions into a word processing program. Change the font to meet the needs of your child. Leave whatever space your child needs to be able to work the problems. Change anything else you don't like. It's fully customizable. (You may want to alter question 2. It was worded that way more for the parent than the child. Feeling mischievious today!) If you don't live in the United States, change the country in question 8. If you aren't doing this for Independence Day, or if you are in another country, simply delete those words. If you don't homeschool, just make it a group of kids playing. (And definately change question 2!)
- Benjamin and Martha are putting on a play for Independence Day. They invite three homeschooled girls to be in the play. They invite four homeschooled boys to be in the play. How many children did they invite?
- They decide to let some public school children be in their play too, because those children needed more socialization than public school could give them. The homeschoolers invite two more boys and one more girl. How many public school children will be in the play?
- Find out how many children will be in the play all together. Add the number of homeschooled children to the number of public school children. Then add Benjamin and Martha. Write how many children all together are in the play.
- Their play needs some animals, too. Asha says her two dogs like to act. Alex says his three rabbits aren’t afraid of an audience. How many animals will be in the play?
- Now how many characters do the children need to put in the play? Add the number of children to the number of animals.
- The play is about how to help their country. The children decide to have three scenes. In the first scene, some children will pretend to be sad because their park is messy. They all work together to make it beautiful. The part where they are sad will last five minutes. The part where they clean it up will last ten minutes. How long is the first scene?
- They decide the first scene will have all the six year olds and all the eight year olds in it. Two children are six years old. Three children are eight years old. How many children are in scene one?
- Scene two is about a little girl who moves to the United States from another country. Some children are mean to her. Then a homeschooled girl decides to be her friend and teaches the other children to be nice, also. Rosy will be the girl who moves to the United States. Three children will be the mean children. Lian will be the nice girl who helps Rosy. How many children are in scene two?
9. In the last scene, the children will be worried about stray dogs in their neighborhood. The characters will plan a program to help the animals find homes. All the animals are in this scene. Marcos and Armond will be the stars of this scene. How many characters (including animals) are in the scene?
- At the end of the show, the children will have a parade. They are going to let their little brothers and sisters be in the parade. All together, the children have 4 brothers and 9 sisters. How many brothers and sisters will be in the parade?
