Count Nouns
(answer sheet below)
Count nouns are nouns that can be made plural and that you are able to count. (That makes sense!) For instance, cat is a noun. It is also a count noun, because you can count the number of cats there are in any particular group and you can use a plural form of the word. If you can use the word many to describe the number of nouns, it is a count noun, because non-count nouns can't be described as many. Non-count nouns are nouns that can't be counted out, and that don't have a plural form. For instance, you can't count water that comes from a drinking fountain, so water would be a non-count noun. However, sometimes the word waters is used to describe lakes or oceans. In this meaning, the word does have a plural and would be a count noun. Think about the meaning before deciding whether or not a noun is a count noun. Loyalty can't be counted, so it is a non-count noun. Collective nouns, which refer to a group, such as family, mob, audience or worshippers are count nouns.
In the following sentences, write whether the underlined noun is used as a count noun or a non-count noun. You can write C for count or N for non-count.
