I think that as a writer one has the responsibility to convey their values and what they stand for with just that, responsibility. It is too often we see people "selling out" for the almighty dollar or fame. Staying true to what one believes is a far more interesting read in my opinion. A writer is a teacher as well and needs to be regarded as such.

I agree wholeheartedly. I wonder what the bookshelves would be like if no one ever wrote something they know is morally wrong. What if writers who don't believe in swearing didn't decide they have to have it in their books? What if writers who believe in abstinance until marriage didn't decide it would be unrealistic in their novels?

They say it's what people want. But in reality, I think many readers are just settling, because what they want isn't out there.
